1851 Canadian Census

I have been busy looking thru the scanned in images of from the Canadian Census of 1851. You cannot search by surname, but only by location. I scanned thru the St-Jean-Baptiste, Rouville, Quebec section looking for some Saurette people. I did find some and now I am putting the information together and making sure it all matches up with what else is know.

I should have some information to post in the next few days relating to the Saurette side. I am going to try and find some Oligny names too, but I have not been able to find St-Remi in the database. Stay tuned for images and my comments.

A Few Updates

I did a couple of minor updates to some reports on the site this AM. I received an e-mail today that corrected a couple dates that I had and also added a name here and there. The report in question is the descendant report of Jacques Saurette and his wife, Marguerite. For the casual reader, you won’t find any major changes, but this is the most up-to-date report that I have.

I also ran a new ancestral report from my grandfather on back – it seemed like it was time to update it. I don’t really know if there were any major changes, but I figured that since I was already exporting .pdf files that I might as well add this one too.

I still have not uploaded the new master database in a while, but I hope to do that before too long.

Please continue to e-mail me at srock@saurette.com if you see information that you would like added and/or modified. I appreciate all the contacts that I have made thus far.

Yet More CDs Are Here

I purchased several more marriage record CDs and have begun to dig thru them to find some of “my people.” I have found a bunch of Saurette people to enter. On a lot of the new CDs I have to also look under Larose. It usually says Saurette-Larose under the S section and Larose-Saurette under the L section. So it would seem that the later descendants used both names – seems like a personal preference to me.

So the next few days will see a flurry of activity on my end followed by more uploads to the site.

Oligny’s Assimilated

This morning I finally finished entering in all the Oligny marriages from St-Jean County CD. There were quite a few, but I pushed on thru to the end of the list. The easiest way to view the Oligny people in my genealogy is to view the descendant report of Jean Oligny. This report encapsulates all Olignys who are related to me someway or another. Anyone needing more information regarding the Oligny surname and their spouses may contact me via e-mail at srock@saurette.com.

I also did a few other minor updates to the Saurette side. I was able to find marriage information for one of Guillaume & Elmire’s daughters in Missiquoi County.

I will probably troll thru the St-Jean records more and put in some shoe-string people, but for now the bulk of data input is done.
